Soldier's Journey in Iraq by F. Scott Service

 F. Scott Service extends an open invitation to step into the mind of a soldier at war. "Lines in the Sand: An American Soldier's Journey in Iraq" is based on the naturlikeness kept during the author's service in Iraq. It offers a unique and very intimate look into the thoughts and emotions brought on by a world falling apart. The memoir was triggered by F. Scott Service being deployed with the US Army to the Iraq war. He was stationed at Camp Anaconda, where he served as a specialist in hydraulics mechanic, mainly focusing on repairing helicopters. At camp all daily activities are strictly regimented by the greater power of the US Army. The few days off that soldiers enjoy offer very limited display of freedom. However, in parallel, he followed his calling and passion as a writer, tirelessly documenting the daily life of a soldier.  David Brown was a Dallas Police Chief from 2010 to 2016. He served thirty-three years and is now retired. It seems like now every night when we watch the news there are protests and mass shootings. Every week, it seems like we receive notices to lower the flag due to some murder. Police officers face new challenges today with automatic weapons , technology and social media. I believe we have social media to thank for some of the rioting. People respond before they know the full facts of a situation. Even with video footage, there still be more to the story or another angle. David felt called to enter the police force after his sophomore year in college when he visited home and noticed his neighborhood deteriorating into drugs. He didn't take for granted how hard his mother worked to raise him and wanted to make a difference in his community.
